A BLACK BOX

Vedute Foundation

Visualising thoughts that make the concept of ‘space’ accessible and tangible; that’s the aim of the Dutch foundation Vedute. Vedute invites artists, designers, architects and others active in different disciplines, to visualise their fascination with space in a work measuring 44 x 32 x 7 cm in closed form. Kossmanndejong was delighted with the invitation to add a 3D-manuscript to this library of spatial creativity.

As exhibition designers we create narrative spaces. Space is as important for the story and experience as text, objects, film, light and sound.

Space is being transformed and manipulated. Charged with drama, content and meaning. Our ideal exhibition space can be compared with a theatre hall: a black box in which everything is possible.
In contrast with the classical and most common museum space, the white cube, where daylight and white walls create the setting.

In contrast with the classical and most common museum space, the white cube, where daylight and white walls create the setting. Our manuscript also is a black box. An abstract translation of our ideal habitat. From here we start working with images, references and lots of makers and thinkers to create new realities. For Vedute we visualised our concept of space through the creation of this film (by Tungsten) inside a black box.
