THE STORY OF ECCO
ECCO Visitor Center

We designed the visitor center of shoe manufacturer ECCO located in the Danish town of Bredebro. ECCO is an international company with more than 20,000 employees in 88 different countries. They asked us to create an interactive presentation aimed at employees, business relations and a wider audience explaining their history, craftsmanship, innovative design, and production process.

Multi-sensory experience
In the center you will be introduced into the art of shoe making through a multi-sensory experience. A high level of tactility and proximity were important design principles for us. As soon as you walk up the stairs to the exhibition you are surrounded by shoes on the walls and ceiling.

It immediately becomes clear that ECCO and leather are extricably linked. The entire exhibition space is covered in and made with leather

A timeline made entirely of leather covers the walls; here you can explore the history of ECCO through infographics, peepholes, hidden hands-on elements, and showcases. The leather has been richly detailed by ECCO employees with every detail imaginable. The timeline ends with a forward-looking glimpse where you can discuss the dilemmas that ECCO predicts for the future in an interactive way.

They asked us to create an interactive presentation aimed at employees, business relations and a wider audience explaining their history, craftsmanship, innovative design, and production process.

If the shoe fits...
The whole production process of a shoe is explained in the central room. Through seven interactive tables you can experience how an ECCO shoe is made, step by step, from the first sketch to the final quality check. At each table, you get a hint or comment from one of the virtual ECCO employees. The combination of traditional craftsmanship with modern media techniques such as film, animations, interactives, and audio makes this presentation very unique.
