PLAN THE IMPOSSIBLE

Nederlands Architectuur Instituut

A play of light and dark

Architect Hendrik Wijdeveld (1885–1987) is considered to be the greatest visionary from Dutch architectural history. Wijdeveld saw the world as one great theatre in which he could stage his dreams. He created a visual spectacle as a contrast to the uninspiring, scientific, modernist urban architecture.

The universe of Wijdeveld

Outside

Like the work of Wijdeveld, the exhibition has a theatrical design: with the use of drawings, light, film and sound, a cosmic stage-setting was created in which some hundred beautiful drawings by Wijdeveld hover like stars around a central focal point. On the inside of this, a film animation is projected, depicting a journey through the mind of Wijdeveld, giving a glimpse into his ideas and concepts.
