MIRACULOUS ALPHABET

De Nieuwe Kerk

Miraculous alphabet

The bicentenary of the Koninklijke Bibliotheek (Royal Library) was celebrated with this spectacular special exhibition. Using bookcases, an amazing ‘city’ was created with 26 constructions, one for each letter of the alphabet. Each of them depicts a fascinating aspect of the Koninklijke Bibliotheek (Royal Library).

The visitor goes from A to Z around a labyrinthine city of books. The focal point is the biggest bookcase in the Netherlands, covering an area 40 metres long and 9 metres wide and high. In the other sections, the most valuable treasures of the KB are displayed, such as atlases under the B by Blaeu and the collection of children’s books by Winnetou under the W.
