FROM CUYPERS TO COENEN
Nederlands Architectuur Instituut

This exhibition is a voyage of discovery to the indescribably unique character of architectural culture in South Limburg. It shows how this old cultural landscape has been inundated in recent centuries by a number of modernisation waves. The climax of the presentation is a series of projects by Limburg architects who endeavoured to build a bridge between old and new. Pierre Cuypers, Frits Peutz, Jos Klijnen and Jo Coenen each sought in their own individual way a contemporary interpretation of regional traditions.

With the help of 1600 photos of South Limburg, we simulated a virtual hilly landscape.

This landscape consists of green hills, white farmhouses, old villages and towns and the typical Maasland architecture of sandstone, marlstone and brick.
